“Abortion is not merely the removal of some tissue from a woman’s body. Abortion is the destruction of an unborn baby…No one has a right to choose to put an innocent human being to death.”
John Cardinal O’Connor
Each of us is created by God out of pure love. Each of us is wanted. Every human person is a unique and unrepeatable reflection of God. Out of this sense of the sacredness of the human person, wonder arises in our hearts. We recognize that every life has infinite value, regardless of age or ability. In abortion, the priceless gift of a human person is destroyed. A woman who is facing an unexpected pregnancy often feels driven to have an abortion out of fear or pressure from others. What she really needs is support and accompaniment, enabling her to respond to the deeper desire in her heart to give life to her child. Women always deserve better than abortion.

When Does Human Life Begin?
Life is beautiful and it begins in the womb!
Science for Unborn Human Life contains hundreds of easily accessible facts about the rapid development of the unborn child, focusing on the first eight weeks after conception.
The resources include citations from scientific journals and are affirmed by multiple OBGYNS. Truth Booth: A window to the womb offers DVDs and displays of 3D and 4D ultrasound images, providing an educational experience for all age groups on the development of a child in the womb.
The Charlotte Lozier Institute offers additional evidence from scholars like Dr. Maureen Condic, a professor of neurobiology and pediatrics.
The Pro-Life Response
“We are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death and life, the ‘culture of death’ and the ‘culture of life.’ We find ourselves not only faced with but necessarily in the midst of this conflict: we are all involved and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of choosing to be unconditionally pro-life.” – St. Pope John Paul II, The Gospel of Life
Roe v. Wade is the 1973 Supreme Court case which struck down existing state laws nationwide that had formerly made abortion illegal. Roe v. Wade effectively legalized abortion throughout a woman’s nine months of pregnancy. While the legal validity of Roe v. Wade has always been considered questionable by those in defense of the sacredness of human life, in recent years this case has come under considerable scrutiny and criticism from the general public and influential media outlets.
To learn more, visit the USCCB’s page on Roe v. Wade, which provides church documents, fact sheets, and more that examine the facts and myths about the Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion nationwide.
According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, approximately 1 out of 3 women in the United States will have had an abortion by age 45. It’s fair to say that the majority of Americans have either had an abortion or know someone who has experienced one.
In New York:
- The New York State Department of Health reports that 87,325 abortions took place New York during 2016
- Half of the abortions reported in NY were performed on women who had had abortions previously
Other information:
Race and Abortion: Abortion has, in particular, devastated black and African-American communities across the United States. In New York City, over 50% of pregnancies in these communities are terminated. Watch this video of Catherine Davis, Founder of the National Black Pro-Life Coalition.
Abortion and Breast Cancer: Scientific research indicates a link between Abortion and Breast Cancer. Dr. Chris Kahlenborn documents the effect that abortion has on breast cancer and other serious health concerns in his book: Breast Cancer, Its Link to Abortion and the Birth Control Pill.
