CARDINAL EGAN ASKS FOR PRAYERS FOR CARDINAL GEORGE
Edward Cardinal Egan, Archbishop of New York, asked the Catholic people of the Archdiocese of New York to offer prayers for Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago, who underwent surgery for cancer today.
Cardinal Egan is attending a meeting of the Alliance of Catholic Education at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. The Cardinal addressed the meeting today, and will celebrate Mass for the attendees in the morning before concluding the meeting by "missioning" the teachers for service back in their home dioceses.
The Cardinal spoke with Bishop Timothy J. Lyne, an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, both yesterday and today. Cardinal Egan said that, "I asked Bishop Lyne to assure Cardinal George that the faithful of the Archdiocese of New York will be praying for the Cardinal this weekend. Bishop Lyne reported that the operation seemed to be successful and that Cardinal George appears to be doing well. Let us all continue to pray for a full and speedy recovery."
