ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH MASS AT ST. PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL WILL BE THIS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 3 at 2PM  

New York, NY – The Office of Black Ministry of the Archdiocese of New York will host the  Annual Black History Month Mass and observance of the National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family on Sunday,  February 3, 2019 at 2PM in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. New Yorkers of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds will join the Black Catholic community of the Archdiocese of New York to celebrate the rich faith, culture, and history of our African American and African communities in the city. This year’s theme will be “Serving Our Brothers and Sisters: Our Calling, Our Opportunity, Our Legacy!” in celebration and acknowledgement of the contributions of the historically Black Greek Letter organizations, collectively known as the  Divine 9.

The principal celebrant will be  Bishop Guy Sansaricq, retired Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn.  Reverend Andrew C. Smith, Pastor of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois will serve as homilist. The Mass will be concelebrated by over twenty priests serving in the Archdiocese of New York.

This year, in addition to Mass on Sunday, members of the Divine 9 will be organizing a weekend of service in collaboration with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York.
