Sheen Center: Among the Displaced

In the fall of 2014, American lawyer Stephen M Rasche left his commercial practice to join the lay staff of the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil in northern Iraq. There, in the midst of the ISIS war, he began a new life as a lay Catholic in service to the displaced.
Working always within the framework of the Catholic Church, for the next nine years this work would place him directly among the displaced populations of Iraq, and over the past two years, Nigeria as well. Along the way, he documented his surroundings with photos from these conflict zones, many of which have been published in news media worldwide.
Now for the first time, selected photos are being presented together in an exhibition at the Sheen Center in New York. The despair, hope, fear, and joy of the lives of the displaced, and the Catholic communities serving them, reach out directly in this moving exhibit.
