Discussion & Discipleship: Gun Control

April 30, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

***RSVP REQUIRED. NEW LOCATION.***
WHY DOES THE CHURCH BELIEVE THAT? HOW CAN I EXPLAIN THIS TO OTHERS?
Sometimes, we have difficulty understanding Catholic teaching and even greater difficulty in explaining it to others. Discussion & Discipleship is a collaborative group where young adults come together to work through these questions! As a group, we examine issues of politics, culture, science, law and philosophy, all from the Catholic perspective.
What does the Church teach about gun control? Are Catholics called to pacificism? How does gun ownership coincide with the principle of self-defense? What reforms should Catholics support? We will be reading sections 2263-2265 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, a USCCB summary on gun violence, and an article on Church teaching and gun control.
***In light of COVID-19, we will be abiding by all the applicable safety guidelines. Please be prepared and respectful.
***RSVP required. Limited spacing. Followed by appetizers/drinks at a local establishment. Please email [email protected].
Discussion & Discipleship is led by the Offices of Public Policy + Safe Environment of the Archdiocese of NY.
