9th Annual Harlem Inter-Faith March Against Violence

(Harlem, New York) — Do you want to see an END to VIOLENT Loss in Our Community? If so, please join us for our ninth annual Harlem Inter-faith March Against violence on Saturday, Sept 9, 2023 at 9am.

The march steps off at 211 West 141st Street in front of St. Charles Borromeo Church at 10:00am. The Rally and Prayer session will be held at the Kennedy Center beginning at 11:00am.

The Harlem Inter-Faith March Against Violence began when there were ‘pop-up’ rallies around NYC in response to killings of unarmed Black people. The first March and Day of Prayer was on a bitter cold day in 2015 in response to the death of Eric Garner in the summer of 2014.

“Black men and women are disproportionately dying at the hands of rogue police and other gun violence. Our elders are also suffering abuse,” said Dr. Martha Adams Sullivan, Chair of the Anti-Violence Committee of the Social Justice Ministry, “It is imperative that we of all faiths invite God in to help us take effective action to stop all forms of violence.”

Our Lazarus Project ministry of consolation decided it was also important not only to grieve the deceased but to work to prevent these violent losses that created such grief in our community and to invite God in to help us to take effective action toward this goal. It is interdenominational recognizing that Black people of all faiths are disproportionately victims of this violence. The event would later become an activity of the parish Anti-Violence Committee of the Social Justice Ministry.

So please join us in fostering a safer and more united community devoid of the tragedy of violence. We encourage you to bring your Organization Banners or Pictures of those loved ones lost and to hold them high while marching.

Let us stand united against violence, uplifted by the spirit of community, faith and resilience. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter, safer tomorrow.
