The fall of 2025 will mark the 60th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council’s document, Nostra Aetate (“In Our Age”), on the Church’s relations with Jews, Muslims, and those of other religions. Scholars suggest that Nostra Aetate ushered in a “Copernican revolution” in the way the Church relates to non-Catholics. Many of the examples of interreligious collaboration that we take for granted in 2025 were unthinkable not so long ago, and this 60th anniversary of that watershed moment in the life of the Catholic Church should be an opportunity for reflection on the past and preparation for the future. To mark this anniversary, and to facilitate this reflection on the past and preparation for the future, the Sheen Center, in collaboration with in collaboration with the Archdiocese of New York, Peace Islands Institute New York, and Park Avenue Synagogue will present an interreligious panel discussion representing the Catholic, Muslim, and Jewish traditions, bookended by musical interludes from Sufi musicians and a Jewish cantor.
The core of the event will be a moderated discussion between three distingushed panelists:
CATHOLIC MOVIE NIGHT – BLESSED DUNS SCOTUS
The inspiring true story of the holy Franciscan priest and theologian who won a famous debate against the Dominicans in the 13th century in which he defended Our Lady’s great privilege of her Immaculate Conception, laying the groundwork for the Church to later define that as a dogma of the Catholic faith. Filmed in beautiful ancient monastery locations in Europe, Scotus is revealed as a humble and courageous apostle of the Faith against the oppressive anti-Catholic government in power. His public defense of the papacy as the head of the Church eventually got him thrown out of the country.
An important film for Americans since the Immaculate Conception is the Patroness of the USA, this acclaimed feature film stars Italian actor Adriano Braidotti in an award-winning performance as Blessed John Duns Scotus, who was Beatified by John Paul II. The movie won major awards for Best Movie and Best Actor at the 2011 International Catholic Film Festival.

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that allow you to explore the Christian faith, ask questions and share your point of view in a safe and friendly environment.
Sessions include:
Is there more to life than this?
Who is Jesus? Why did he die?
How can we have faith?
Why and how do I read the bible?
What about the church?
How does it work?
Each session includes food, a short video and a discussion at the end where you can share your thoughts. At any point, if you think Alpha isn’t for you, that’s not a problem. There’s no pressure and no charge.
The course runs for 12 weeks. And there is a wonderful 24 hour offsite retreat that involves a hike, a Mass, delicious dinners, and the visit of the Holy Spirit! Come to the first one and see if it’s for you.
This is a great place to invite a friend who may be curious about your Catholic faith. The Alpha course has proven to be an effective tool for awakening faith in people who are on the fringe of parish life, faithful Catholics and those outside the faith.
Holy Hour in prayer for those discerning priesthood, consecrated life, or marriage, and for young adults preparing for these callings. All are welcome.
