This summer marks the 32nd Capuchin Appalachian Mission trip to Harlan, KY–a community where 41% of the population lives in poverty. Since our first trip over 30 years ago, teen and adult participants have addressed the urgent needs of thousands living in this area of Appalachia. While the economic situation in Harlan is fragile, the people there are strong, willing, welcoming, and filled with the love of God. Our friends in Harlan each year inspire us to allow the Lord to expand our hearts and generosity. As we launch our 32nd Mission, we increase our commitment to sustainability, serving more people in need and introducing the joy of service to our volunteers. Our Mission offers opportunities to serve local children for a Vacation Bible School and families in need through supply distribution outreach, construction programs to improve living conditions in rural homes and outreach to the elderly & infirm.
