Guided by Grace: You can talk about Religion and Politics here

And as we approach our national elections, the Church of the Epiphany is offering a wonderful weekly lecture series entitled “Guided by Grace: You Can Talk About Politics and Religion Here”. This thought-provoking series will delve into how faith shapes our political views and the role of the Catholic Church in the public square. Through a blend of lectures, discussions, and guest speakers, we will examine the moral and ethical dimensions of key issues facing our nation. Whether you are deeply religious, spiritually curious, or simply interested in the impact of faith on society, this series offers a respectful and open forum for dialogue. All are welcome!

The first event will take place on Wednesday October 9th at 7pm in the Parish Hall with a talk and discussion led by Jesuit artist and journalist Joe Hoover. Joe will speak about Making Christian Choices regarding our duty as local and national citizens.

The second event will take place October 16th at 7pm in the Parish Hall with a talk and discussion led by Liam Meyers, a Professor of Religious Studies at Iona University. In this talk, Liam will ask us to take a step back to consider historical witnesses from the Catholic Worker movement, and the broader peace movement, and how it relates to our current political situation.

The third event will take place October 23rd at 7pm in the Parish Hall with a talk and discussion led by Martha Hennessy, Activist At The Catholic Worker, and grandchild of Dorothy Day. Martha in this talk, will explore the intersection of environmental stewardship and economic justice through the lens of Catholic social teaching.

The final event will take place October 30th at 7pm in the Parish Hall with a talk and discussion led by Alex Gruber,
PhD Candidate in Theology at Fordham University. In “Love and Expression,” Alex will discuss how the call to receive, proclaim, and model God’s love is made to all people – single or married, gay or straight, cis- or transgender.
