Department of Energy

In the spirit of the Laudato Si’, we are working to create a more energy efficient Archdiocese of New York.

This is a free energy efficiency technical training, combined with guided hands-on project implementation. The program focuses on energy efficiency education, local laws, policy, cost benefit and implementation assistance on buildings within the Archdiocese of New York portfolio. This offering is available to all Archdiocese of New York and Trustees of St. Patrick’s Cathedral employees and contractors.

Energy efficiency trainings will help us deliver on Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’ to do our fair share to care and protect our common home, and help reduce the archdiocese’s carbon footprint through reducing energy expenses…

Vicar General Joseph P. LaMorte

The Archdiocese of New York’s Energy Department is currently seeking candidates for our newly established Green Team. This team of volunteers will help devise solutions for sustainable environmental goals for use at the parish or community or organizational levels. Members will be equipped with a series of developmental training sessions to build their knowledge on how to create local sustainable initiatives.

As occupants and users of Archdiocese of New York buildings, your input is invaluable, regardless of your position or occupation. Please consider taking a moment to fill out this anonymous survey to track results from our training as well as building operations and maintenance services.

Move to LED lighting!

It’s the easiest and cheapest way to be energy efficient.

Caulk your windows!

Save money and energy by eliminating gaps and cracks that allow warm and cold air to escape.

Support businesses that use clean energy!

It will take a little time and a bit of your energy to research green options, but it is truly the work of the Lord in defense of His creation.

Watch your temperature settings if you can to conserve energy!

Try to keep your thermostat at 72 degrees in the summer and 68 degrees in the winter.

Join the Green Team!
