Vocations in the Archdiocese of New York
The Archdiocese of New York is blessed with men and women who generously respond to God’s call to serve His Church. Whether that call leads to the priesthood, religious life, or the permanent diaconate, our vocation offices walk with individuals as they discern the Lord’s will with clarity and peace. We invite you to explore the paths below and learn how the archdiocese supports those whom God is calling.
Priestly Vocations
The call to the priesthood is a profound invitation to serve Christ and His Church through a life of sacrament, prayer, and pastoral charity. The Office of Vocations accompanies men who are discerning this call and provides guidance, retreats, spiritual direction, and opportunities to learn more about seminary formation.

Religious Life
Consecrated life is a joyful response to Christ through the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Many religious communities—men’s and women’s—serve within the archdiocese through education, healthcare, parish ministry, and contemplative prayer. The Vicar for Religious supports these communities and assists those who feel drawn to this beautiful vocation.

Permanent Diaconate
Permanent deacons serve the Church through preaching, liturgical ministry, and charitable outreach. The archdiocese’s Diaconate Formation Program prepares men for this ministry through prayer, academic study, and pastoral training. If you feel called to serve the People of God as a deacon, the formation team is ready to guide you.
