Suicide Prevention

If you or a loved one are considering suicide:

You are loved, wanted, and not alone. Are you thinking about suicide or worried about a friend or loved one? Help is available. Call or text 988 (English or Spanish) for immediate help for yourself or a loved one.

Suicide Prevention Resources for Schools and Parishes

Below are two resources developed by the Archdiocese of New York that can be used in schools & parishes:

  1. Suicide Prevention Resources: a two-page list of resources, including suicide prevention trainings, local counseling options, and national suicide prevention organizations.
  2. Preventing Suicide in Our Community: an infographic poster describing common myths, common warning signs, ways to help someone who is struggling, and local counseling options.

ADAPP Suicide Prevention Resources: information and resources about suicide prevention and mental health, especially for youth

New York Suicide Prevention Center: a website designed to provide a comprehensive set of tools, information, and resources to support the effort to prevent suicide

CDC Suicide Prevention: Facts, risk and protective factors, strategies, programs, and resources

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: an organization that raises awareness, funds scientific research and provides resources and aid to those affected by suicide

National Institute of Mental Health – Suicide Prevention: the leading federal agency for research on mental disorders

Suicide Prevention Trainings

ADAPP Suicide Prevention: a training series that provides information and action steps to prevent youth suicide

LivingWorks Faith – New York State: an online program that empowers Christian Faith leaders to increase safety from suicide and minister to those who have experienced suicide loss

Counseling

Parish Counseling Network: short-term and crisis counseling; referrals can be made by pastors or designated parish staff. Parishioners are eligible for a maximum of six counseling sessions with a $10 co-pay per session.

Solace House: provides free, confidential, therapeutic counseling for anyone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts or suicidal distress, as well as those who engage in self-harm, or have been bereaved by suicide.

Resources for Suicide Loss

Red Bird Ministries: offers support and resources for healing for individuals navigating suicide loss. The Remember program provides faith-centered support, healing, and community for those carrying the weight of loss.
