SCREENING OF “THE DIVINE PLAN” A COLD WAR DOCUMENTARY WITH A STRIKING COMIC BOOK FILM AESTHETIC TOMORROW 7PM AT THE SHEEN CENTER
New York, NY – The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture will be hosting a screening of director Robert Orlando’s most recent documentary The Divine Plan: Reagan, John Paul II and the Dramatic End of the Cold War tomorrow Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 7: 00 P.M. in the Loreto Theater. Keeping the pace of a classic spy thriller and filmed with a larger-than-life comic book aesthetic, the film represents visual storytelling at its best. The Divine Plan tells the story of the dramatic end to the Cold War through the lens of faith, politics, and the parallel journeys of Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan. The director takes the audience through the assassination attempts, the web of competing intelligence at the KGB and CIA, and the ultimate political and ideological dismantling of the Soviet Union.
The film includes commentary by a team of world-renowned scholars, politicians, historians and journalists; among them Paul Kengor, Douglas Brinkley, Richard Allen, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, John O’Sullivan, Craig Shirley, Steve Kotkin, George Weigel, Bishop Robert Barron, Anne Applebaum, Monika Jablonska, Marek Jan Chodakiewicz, and HW Brands. Probing deeply into the shadows of the Cold War, the director exposes events that vividly reveal an uncommon mission during one of American history’s most tumultuous times. The screening will be followed by a talkback with director Robert Orlando and author Paul Kengor, moderated by David DiCerto, Director of Program Administration at The Sheen Center.
