ARCHBISHOP DOLAN ATTENDS KENNEDY CENTER PERFORMANCE OF THE DEFIANT REQUIEM
The Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York, and Co-chair and Moderator of Jewish Affairs for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, will attend a performance of the Defiant Requiem by Verdi and speak at an event immediately following the concert on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
The performance, which tells the story of Jewish prisoners who performed Verdi’s Requiem Mass at Theresienstadt Concentration Camp, is a multi-media event combining the music of Verdi with testimonies of concentration camp survivors and footage from the original Nazi propaganda film about the camp.
