Archdiocese of New York | Safety Guidelines

Last year, as parish communities, you were phenomenal in preventing COVID-19 exposure and keeping our young people and families safe. We are so grateful for the hard work you have done to continue to form our youth in the faith.

Because there has been so much progress in education on reducing risks, understanding of symptoms, vaccinations, and treatment of those with COVID-19, the CDC, NY State, and NYC Departments of Education have streamlined their guidelines. In light of this, we provide the following guidelines and recommendations for the 2022-23 year.

Archdiocese of New York | Synodal Synthesis

As you know, in the fall of 2021, Pope Frances opened a three-phase synod process from the Vatican. The Holy Father asked dioceses, religious communities, and Catholic institutions to come together to listen, discuss, and contemplate, in a process he called synodality.

This opportunity for introspection was kicked off in the Archdiocese of New York on October 17, 2021, with an introductory Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan. During his homily, the cardinal referred to this communal exploration “as an examination of conscience on how we, as a Church are living up to the model of the Church given by Jesus.”

The archdiocese was fortunate to have more than 4,000 people contribute to various listening and discernment sessions.

Family Life Office | Director Update

After just a month or so as Director of the Family Life Office of the Archdiocese of New York, I write to you to introduce myself and to provide some contact information for myself and the Family Life Office team. I am grateful to His Eminence Cardinal Dolan and Monsignor LaMorte for this appointment and look forward to ministering with you and your parish leadership. I come to the Archdiocese of New York after many years of experience in Catholic schools, parishes, and (arch)dioceses, including fifteen years in the Diocese of Brooklyn serving as Secretary for Evangelization and Catechesis, responsible for multiple pastoral offices including the office of marriage, family life, and respect life. In each role, service to the parish pastor and leadership has always been my priority.

Family Life Office | Marriage Preparation Booklets

The Family Life Office is happy to provide additional English and Spanish Marriage Prep Booklets for you to give your couples who are preparing for marriage.

As a reminder, priests and deacons sending their couples to the English and Spanish Archdiocesan Marriage Prep Program should direct them to select one of the two premarital relationship inventories – Catholic Couple Checkup (which doesn’t require your facilitation) or Prepare/Enrich (which does require facilitation) when they register for marriage prep on the Family Life Office website

Schools | Rising Above Newsletter

Over the past several years, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has spoken of the notion of encounter – the ability for individuals to come together to know one another from a special space, in a special way, with the intention of uplifting the other.

This past year, each of the pastors, principals and teachers engaged in this sacred encounter within the sacred spaces of school buildings, playgrounds, churches, chapels, and in reunions with parents, neighbors, and clergy.
