The Art of Controversy leans into important and timely discussions about Catholic faith and culture. Bringing together guests of differing views, the series will lead with civility, inclusiveness, and a willingness to listen, neither shying away from the teachings of the Catholic Church nor the charitable love with which the faithful are called to proclaim them. Our first event in the series is: “Public Figures and the Eucharist.”

November 19-20 | Global Celebration of Young People | Youth Faith Formation Office

His Holiness Pope Francis in his recently released message for the 37th World Youth Day (Global Celebration for Young People), shares, “My message for you, dear young people, the great message entrusted to the Church, is Jesus! Yes, Jesus himself, in his infinite love for each of us, his salvation and the new life he has bestowed upon us.” This universal message calls upon us to remind young people of this announcement of Jesus’s love for each of them!
In response to this message, and in the declaration of renewal to celebrate and accompany young people. We encourage each parish to intentionally recognize young people in the community as Pope Francis has asked on the Solemnity of Christ the King, November 20, 2022.
Please see the attached Global Celebration Resources and Liturgical Suggestions handout for free resources on how to engage and celebrate young people, including Prayers of the Faithful, homily notes, and optional blessings.
November 29 | Giving Tuesday | Development Office
The increased offertory programs that launched last month have provided select parishes an ideal way to improve their offertory during a time of the year when most people give to a variety of philanthropic causes. For those parishes not participating, the autumn is still a great season to boost participation and communicate the benefits of sustained offertory giving.
This year’s Giving Tuesday (Tuesday, November 29, 2022), a global day to encourage charitable giving following the consumer-driven Black Friday and Cyber Monday, may be an ideal time to emphasize your electronic giving program during mass, as most are already being asked to support causes through online giving.
It may also be good practice to promote less discussed giving options that nonetheless provide substantial support, especially due to larger gift sizes. These options include employer matching gifts, gifts of securities, gifts through Donor Advised Funds (DAF), gifts through mandatory distribution from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA), and estate planning (also known as Planned Giving).
For detailed instructions on handling these gift types, or for more information on informing parishioners about these giving options, please reach out to your Associate Director of Finance, Campaign Manager, or contact the Development Office of the Archdiocese of New York directly at (646) 794-3300 or [email protected].
