News to Use From Our Pastoral Offices

Adult Faith Formation: Talent Search

We are grateful to you, our priests, for your vocation and all the ways you shepherd our people! We also acknowledge that your life experience encompasses more than your priesthood. Before becoming a priest, perhaps you were a teacher, musician, project manager, DJ, sales manager, athlete, etc. Thank you for all the ways you share your gifts and skills in your parish. We would love to celebrate them and share them through our pastoral office events and initiatives.

If you are interested in sharing them, please let us know by emailing me, Elizabeth Guevara de Gonzalez, at [email protected]. As we prepare for fall classes, we would love to hear from any priests interested in teaching through our New York Catholic Bible School or Fr. Felix Varela Institute.

  • Where: CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL 350 East 56th St., Manhattan

Children of varying ages and a wide range of faith development come to us seeking Christian initiation. How do we minister to these children and their families? What is the best way to offer each child appropriate catechesis and formation in Christian life? How do we receive children who have been baptized in other Christian traditions into the full communion of the Catholic Church? Participants will deepen their understanding of the Church’s vision of the baptismal catechumenate as outlined in Part II.1 of the RCIA ritual text (RCIA adapted for children of catechetical age).

  • Sábado, 4 de diciembre 8:30AM – 5:00PM
  • CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL 350 East 56th St., Manhattan

Family Life: Domestic Violence Awareness Memo

October is Respect Life Month and in alignment with that, it is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To guide pastoral care leaders in how to educate Catholics to recognize, respond to, and refer people who are experiencing violence at home, the Catholics For Family Peace Education and Research Initiative has produced a Domestic Violence Toolkit, accessed at www.catholicsforfamilypeace.org. The USCCB also has materials on this issue in both English and Spanish: https://www.usccb.org/topics/marriage‐and‐family‐life‐ministries/domestic‐violence

Would you consider dedicating at least one weekend in October to inform parishioners about domestic abuse, perhaps offering a Mass during October for Domestic Violence Awareness? If you have any questions or want additional information or bulletin samples, please feel free to contact Sue DiSisto in the Family Life Office at [email protected] or 646.794.3191.

Family Life: Convalidation Awareness Pamphlets

Please be aware that the printing company that mailed the Convalidation Awareness pamphlets may not have packed the intended quantities of English and Spanish pamphlets for your parish. We’ve heard that some parishes didn’t receive enough pamphlets, and we were very surprised. Please know that we have more pamphlets and are happy to ship some to you. Simply email the Family Life Office at [email protected], or call our office at 646-794-3188. We apologize for any inconvenience

Family Life: Prepare/Enrich and Catholic Couple Checkup Premarital/Relationship Assessments
