News to Use from Our Pastoral Offices

Chancery Events: Jubilee Mass

As the COVID-19 outbreak evolves, the CDC strongly encourages us to assess large gatherings on a case by case basis in order to protect participants and the health of our local community. We have made the difficult decision to postpone the Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 2:30 PM at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.

Development: Planned Giving Update

The Covid-19 global pandemic has brought into sharp focus just how much we rely on the generosity of our beloved parishioners to keep our parishes healthy and thriving. In previous crises, the non-profits that have shown adaptability and resilience continued thriving long after the crisis ended.

One of the ways that we can manage this as an organization is by looking towards alternate forms of giving, such as planned gifts. While conversations with parishioners about end of life planning and estate plans are difficult ones, they are critical to the peace of mind of parishioners who want to see their parishes survive these uncertain times.

In addition to novel Planned Giving outreach, we are also announcing the launch of our new Planned Giving website, wellness calls, monthly prayer calls for Legacy of Faith Society members, and the new date for the Annual Legacy of Faith Mass and Luncheon.

Respect Life: End of Life Decisions

During this time of pandemic, many people are making end-of-life decisions and are in need of support. The Respect Life Office, in collaboration with the Public Policy Office, has been working to educate people on the dangers of the “living will” which pressure patients to forgo treatment. Especially while our healthcare system is overwhelmed, we must guard against these documents which can lead to subtle forms of euthanasia. The best way to prepare for end-of-life decisions is to designate a health care proxy. A health care proxy form and other helpful information can be found on our website.

Youth Faith Formation – Catechetical Office: The 2020 Forum on Catechesis and Youth Ministry

Every month leading up to the forum, we’ll share reasons to mark your calendar now and start making plans for the 2020 Forum for Catechesis and Youth Ministry.

Reason #4: Share Ideas. Stimulating workshops promote great conversations and great ideas. Just a word or a phrase can start a discussion among religious educators from different regions of the archdiocese. That discussion can spark creativity and bring new energy to everyone’s program.

Stay tuned for another reason in June.
