Adult Faith Formation: Beyond Trauma

As you know many of our people in the archdiocese have suffered loss of family members, friends, employment, and loss of hope. This is a time for healing, and our Lord is here to help us through it. In collaboration with the American Bible Society and the Trauma Healing Institute, the Office of Adult Faith Formation will be hosting a workshop titled Beyond Trauma. This workshop, focused on the healing process, will be open to anyone. This will be a great opportunity for parish ministry leaders who will be leading their groups and may encounter someone who suffered great loss, or it may be for the ministry leaders themselves. The workshop will be held on Tuesday August 25th at 1:30pm in English and at 7pm in Spanish.

Adult Faith Formation: Archdiocesan Adult Confirmation Program Resumes Fall 2020
The Office of Adult Faith Formation will continue to offer the Archdiocesan Adult Confirmation Program in the Fall of 2020 at three locations; Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island. This is a sacramental preparation program for adult Catholics (18+) who already received their first holy communion and are seeking to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. This program is organized for adults who do not belong in their parish Catechumenate (RCIA). Pastor’s permission is required to enroll. The full schedule and registration will be available online on July 15th at http://archny.org/adult-confirmation/.
Additionally, if a pastor has an adult Catholic already prepared to receive the sacrament of Confirmation through their own parish program and wants to send their candidate to one of the Archdiocesan Adult Confirmation Program Masses scheduled for this Fall 2020 (September 21 in Staten Island; December 9 in Manhattan; December 14 in Staten Island), please contact our office at 646-794-2574 or at [email protected].
Development: 2020 Parish Fund Raising Activity for the Fall
I am so thankful for your fortitude and continued ministry throughout this public health crisis. You have stood as leaders within your parish communities and the cardinal has said many times how encouraged he is by your perseverance and ingenuity.
Many of you have brought this determination and resourcefulness to addressing the financial needs of your parishes. As we adjust to what has become a new routine for us, we must continue to engage parishioners in supporting the Church. As part of this effort, I have asked the development team to assist you in continued fundraising activity for the fall. Here are some of the options available to you:
- Assistance with Renew + Rebuild pledge redemption
- Support in organizing an Increased Offertory Campaign
- Continued active fundraising for the Appeal through the end of the year
After considering which choice is the best fit for your parish, contact your campaign manager to let him or her know of your decision. The development team is ready to help you in the planning and implementation of each activity option. If you have already communicated with your campaign manager your preference for fall activity, thanks for your diligence.
Family Life: Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Respect Life Month and in alignment with that, it is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Under the Coronavirus lockdown, it is thought that domestic violence has risen some 20% because many people are trapped at home with their abuser. Would you consider dedicating at least one weekend in October to inform parishioners about domestic abuse?
Thank you for spreading the word about this important issue. If you have any questions, or want additional information or bulletin samples, please feel free to contact Sue DiSisto in the Family Life Office at [email protected] or 646.794.3191.
Sisters of Life: Healing After Abortion
God’s blessings to you. My goodness, you know well – nothing in these past months has been, or in the near future will be, ordinary or predictable! You have experienced this profoundly, no doubt, in your priesthood, in the life of your parish, and certainly in the lives of the faithful. Accordingly, we have had to adjust the yearly letter to you promoting our ministry of Hope & Healing after abortion.
With the permission from your bishop, we are sending along materials, this year electronically, on our ministry for those who are suffering the effects of abortion, which we hope will help support you in your own ministry of mercy at your parish.
