Adult Faith Formation: Christmas Faith Formation Resources

Christmas affords us the opportunity to engage new faces who often come to our churches for Christmas Mass and not again until Ash Wednesday. The Adult Faith Formation office has put together resources for your use to help engage people at any stage in their faith journey during the advent and Christmas season. Perhaps a movie night or a group study is just the invitation someone needs to further their journey toward Christ.

Adult Faith Formation: Men’s Conference

The Men’s Conference is a day for Catholic men to gather together for fellowship, spiritual enrichment and practical insights on how to live their faith. The theme of the conference is Men of Character in Today’s World

Development: 74th Annual Al Smith Dinner

The 74th Annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner took place on Thursday, October 17 at the New York Hilton Midtown. As many of you know, the Al Smith Dinner is our signature fundraising event with proceeds going to help children and families in need throughout the archdiocese.

Family Life: Grief Share

On Wednesday, November 13, the bereavement ministry of the Family Life Office will present GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays, a helpful, encouraging seminar for people facing the holidays after a loved one’s death. This seminar will feature video interviews with counselors, grief experts and more offering practical suggestions and reassurance.

Family Life:  Marriage Mystagogy

The Family Life Office will host an “Unpacking the Mystery of Marriage” wine and cheese mixer for newly married couples (within their first five years of marriage) on Friday,  November 22 at The Catholic Center at NYU from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with guest speaker Fr. Matthew Ernest. Tickets are $20 per couple.

Assuring fun, fellowship and faith, this evening will focus on the period of accompaniment. As Fr. Ernest walks the couples through this special reflection, they will discover what it means to fully participate in the mystery of marriage.

Respect Life: Care and Prepare: End of Life Education Day

Bills to legalize assisted suicide will be a major focus of attention in the Legislature next year. We strongly urge pastors to educate their parishioners about end-of-life decision-making and about the threat of assisted suicide bills. There are many resources available on the webpages of the Respect Life Office, the Public Policy Office and the New York State Catholic Conference. There will also be an educational event on November 23 on this subject.
