Some Things to Know

Updates from the Vicar General and Chancellor

Share the Word: Please give access to all your priests and staff members to that material which is pertinent to them, enclosed in the monthly mailing from the chancery.  For it to succeed, we recommend that this Some Things to Know be posted in the public area of the general office. [Linda Neilson, 646-794-2901; [email protected]]

Annual Meeting and Minutes of the Board of Trustees: To ensure that your parish is in compliance with the New York State Religious Corporation Law, please make certain that the names of your two lay trustees are on file with the chancery and that the minutes of the annual meeting of the board of trustees are kept on file at your parish office.  For a quorum, it is permissible for the archbishop and vicar general to be excused. [Mary Meade, 646.794.3533; [email protected]]

Ordination to the Priesthood: The class of 2019 for the Archdiocese of New York will be ordained to the sacred order of priest at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Saturday, May 25 at 9:00 AM.  On behalf of His Eminence and Monsignor Peter I. Vaccari, you are warmly invited to concelebrate at this liturgy and receive first priestly blessings from the newly-ordained, the Reverend Messrs. Joseph Akunaeziri, John Figueroa, Walter Genito, Roger Kwan and Ryan Muldoon.  In addition to these New Yorkers, Reverend Brother Gabriel Monahan CFR will be ordained for the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.  [Mary Broglie, 914-367-8203; [email protected]]

Do You Have Extra Mass Intentions You Can Spare and Share? The Mass offering or stipend is part of the financial sustenance of the priest.  Retired priests here in New York, some priests serving in our parishes and missionary priests in poor countries around the world often do not have Mass intentions for every day.  Many of them are willing and able to offer Masses for the people who are not able to be present.  If you have an abundance of intentions that you are not able to satisfy yourself, forward names and offerings for distribution to Mass Intention Fund, Office of the Chancellor, 1011 First Avenue, New York, NY  10022.  [Mary Tuohy, 646-794-2904; [email protected]]

Legacy of Faith: The Edward Cardinal Egan Pavilion at the St. John Vianney Clergy Residence in Riverdale is home to more than 35 priests.  It provides peace, serenity, fellowship and the highest-quality care for those who have dedicated their lives to serving the glory of God and the well-being of their communities.  It is a tangible response to Christ’s call to help others.  When you sit down to review your estate to reflect your lifelong devotion to the priesthood, you might think about a gift to the Egan Pavilion.  [Planned Giving Office, 646-794-3317; [email protected]]

Emergency After Hours: If you ever have an emergency when the Catholic Center is closed, you may call Community Answering Service at 877-582-2996.  You can leave a message with the operator and your call will be returned.  Please add this number to the list of contacts in your mobile telephone and name it Chancery Emergency[Mary Tuohy, 646-794-2904; [email protected]]
