Spirituality Day
On Wednesday, November 6, the Office of the Superintendent of Schools hosted its annual Spirituality Day as more than 2,000 principals, staff and faculty gathered at the Westchester County Center to attend Mass celebrated by Cardinal Dolan. Following Mass, the gathered educators enjoyed a moving keynote address from Bishop-elect Msgr. Edmund Whalen.

Choirs from across the Archdiocese of New York Open for Radio City Christmas Spectacular in “The Sounds of Christmas”
Led by their choir directors: Mrs. Ana Germosen, Mrs. Yrcania Ramirez, and Ms. Jennifer Feliz, coupled with the support of their principal, Ms. Sheila Alagia, the elementary school students at St. Peter’s School made their Radio City debut on November 26, prior to the 10:00 a.m. showing. The students prayed a spontaneous litany, “St. Peter… Pray for us,” and marched onto the stage for an experience they surely will not forget.

Also performing on the most famous (and largest) stage in the world, were St. Gregory Barbarigo accompanied by choir director, David Azarow, and principal, Mrs. Dana Spicer, from Garnerville. Moore Catholic High School from Staten Island will be heading to the Art Deco icon on December 19. President/Principal Mrs. Gina L. DeSantis said, “Our outstanding chorus, led by the incomparable Mrs. Kristen Pinto, will have the experience of a lifetime…we are so very proud of our student-performers.”
Special School Visits
Superintendent of Schools Mr. Michael Deegan has made it his mission to visit schools in every single region of the Archdiocese of New York this Winter, and with every visit, he is re-energized in his vocation as teacher.

Something Greater Than Ourselves: Central Westchester Regional Schools Unite in Charity
When Maureen Harten, a proactive principal from Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe, heard about Cross Catholic Outreach’s Boxes of Joy program, she knew she wanted to get involved. Principal Harten was able to rally other schools in the Central Westchester Region and launched an initiative that would unite the faculties, students, and principals, reminding them that they are part of a larger school community.

The schools collected 588 boxes, and each box was filled with a specific list of items for the needy. The participating schools consisted of Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe, Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Scarsdale, Our Lady of Victory School in Mount Vernon, St. Peter’s School in Yonkers, St. Paul the Apostle School in Yonkers, Corpus Christi-Holy Rosary School in Port Chester, Sacred Heart School in Hartsdale, and Our Lady of Sorrows School in White Plains.
