Volunteering at Your Parish

A parish could not pull off youth ministry at a parish without the help of our amazing adult volunteers! Thank you for your willingness to volunteer at your parish. We have been so blessed in the past with generous adults who give of their time and energy to make youth ministry for our parishes as successful as they are. The steps to becoming a volunteer at a parish are as follows.

Becoming a Volunteer

  1. Sign up to volunteer with the Parish staff, Youth Minister, or Director of Religious Education, letting them know that you are interested in volunteering with the youth ministry at your parish.
  2. Your parish staff member will set up a time to meet with you and discuss your interest.
  3. Download  & fill out a background Check Form in English or Spanish
  4. View Safer Spaces Video Online here or contact your parish Safe Environment Coordinator to watch it at the parish.
  5. Send completed background check & Safer Spaces training certificate forms to your parish safe environment coordinator.
  6. Your parish Safe Environment Coordinator will inform you when you are cleared to begin volunteering at your parish Youth Ministry.

June 2019 YM Meetup

Christopher Wesley challenged us to think about how we recruit volunteers, as well as how we maintain them. Just as our youth ministries need to have an overall purpose so that teens can feel inspired to keep returning, our volunteers also need to have a clear understanding of their roles and why they are there.  Show your volunteers gratitude so they feel they are a valued member of youth ministry. Nourish those relationships by listening to their stories!

Click here, here, and here for worksheets based off of Christopher’s talks. These give a summary of what was discussed.

Click on the titles of each of the following for copies of the handouts from the YM Meetup.

Christopher has also generously offered our parishes 50% off all downloadable materials from the Marathon Youth Ministry (MYM) Store. Just use the promo code ILOVENY when purchasing materials.
