BLACK LIVES MATTER: Question or Statement?

April 23, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join thought and Church leaders this Friday, April 23 at 7pm on the virtual Sheen Center Stage for the discussion BLACK LIVES MATTER: Question or Statement? The talk will be moderated by award-winning journalist and author Liz Faublas and the first part will feature Catholic speaker, media host Gloria Purvis for a discussion on how we can ensure that all lives matter in the Church and throughout the country, delving into the question of how church leadership and the faithful can do their part in assuring Black Catholics that their lives matter in light of the repeated tragedies embedded in our nation’s collective memory.

Talk will continue with Archbishop Fernand J. CheriAuxiliary Bishop of New Orleans who will be joined by clergy, religious, and laypersons to share perspectives on the issue of racism and racial justice with special attention to the work that is being done in the Church today. In addition to work that is currently underway in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, they will discuss the initiatives in the Archdiocese of New York through Catholic Charities and the Kennedy Center in Harlem for increased education and action to counteract racism in our communities and parishes.

This talk is hosted by the Archdiocese of New York’s Cultural Diversity Apostolate’s Office of Black Ministry in partnership with The Sheen Center and The Divine Nine, nine historically Black Greek letter organizations (BGLOs) that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Please tune in to the talk on the Sheen Center’s Facebook or YouTube
