CARDINAL DOLAN TO VISIT DAY LABORERS AND YOUNG ADULTS BUILDING ALTAR, CHAIR, AND AMBO FOR POPE'S MASS AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

On Thursday, August 6, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, will visit two special groups of workers in Westchester County who are building the chair, altar, and ambo (lectern) that will be used by Pope Francis when he celebrates Mass in New York's Madison Square Garden this September.

The Cardinal will first visit the Don Bosco Workers, Inc. at 1:45 p.m. to see the chair that is being constructed by day laborers.  The workshop for the papal chair is located at Communications Workers of America Local 1103 at 346 Westchester Avenue, Port Chester New York.  (CWA has graciously offered their space for the project.)  Don Bosco Workers is a grassroots community-organizing group led by immigrant day laborers and other low-income workers in Port Chester, New York, who empower the nearly 200 members for full and fair participation in the workplace through skills training, leadership development, access to daily employment at the DBW hiring site, and wage theft recovery.  Partnering with Don Bosco Workers in the project is Obreros Unidos of Yonkers, a worker center which collaborates with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese.

Following his visit to Don Bosco Workers, he will then visit Lincoln Hall Boys Haven, 145 Lincolndale Road in Lincolndale, at 3:00 p.m. where young men are building the altar and ambo for use by Pope Francis.  Lincoln Hall assists young men in determining and striving for their goals through a wide range of services to residents and their families, including education, therapeutic treatment, clinical services, health care, substance abuse, residential services and community-based services.

In keeping with Pope Francis' emphasis on respecting workers, immigrants, and those on the margins of society, Cardinal Dolan selected Don Bosco Workers and Lincoln Hall Boys Haven to craft these items for the Holy Father's Mass, and the Cardinal looks forward to meeting with them and learning of their progress
