FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 3, 2017
CARDINAL DOLAN TO INTRODUCE NEW PARISH FUNDRAISING EFFORT
Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, will introduce Renew + Rebuild, an archdiocesan wide, parish fundraising effort, at a press conference on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus Parish, 1634 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island. The press conference will begin at 12:00 noon.
Prior to the press conference, the Cardinal will visit Saint Teresa’s school, celebrate Mass for the students at 10:00 a.m., and tour some of the school classrooms.
Renew + Rebuild is primarily focused on the parishes of the archdiocese, with 74% of the parish’s goal remaining in the individual parishes, which, in many cases, have badly needed repairs to churches and other parish properties, and an additional 13% being put towards an endowment for capital projects for needy parishes, and for the restoration of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. The remaining money will be used for select archdiocesan priorities, including: fostering evangelization and lay leadership to nurture the Church for the next generation; strengthening our parishes and schools by addressing critical capital needs; and, caring for our clergy by repairing structural edifices at Saint Joseph’s Seminary and the Saint John Vianney Center for Retired Priests.
Joining Cardinal Dolan at the press conference will be Monsignor William Belford, Pastor of Saint Teresa’s Parish, Ms. Bettina Alonso, Executive Director of Development for the Archdiocese, and Mr. Anthony DeFazio, a trustee of Saint Teresa’s Parish who chaired its Renew + Rebuild campaign.
Renew + Rebuild is the first capital campaign undertaken by the Archdiocese since Cardinal Dolan became Archbishop of New York in 2009. The last capital campaign was the Bicentennial Campaign, spearheaded by Edward Cardinal Egan, between 2005-2008 to mark the 200nth anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of New York in 1808. That campaign raised $197 million.
