Cathedral Prep is a weekend retreat program for high school age young men who are looking to learn more about the priesthood, grow in their relationship with Christ, and have a desire to serve the Church.

Our Motto

Our motto is “IN SPEM ECCLESIAE,” which means “hope of the Church.”  Cathedral Prep was founded on the belief that God works through young people and will bring about a revitalization of our Church through the witness and leadership of the young men who are part of this program.

 What to Expect

This program seeks to help form young men as disciples of Jesus, through spiritual formation and fraternity.  It helps participants learn about the vocation to the priesthood and God’s particular call for them.  Cathedral Prep offers the following:

  • Monthly Weekend Retreats
  • Hikes in the Hudson Valley and tours of the important Catholic sites of New York City
  • Mass, Confession, and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
  • Fellowship with other young men who love Christ and the Church
  • Catechesis
  • Sports and Recreation
  • One-on-one conversations with priests and seminarians
  • Spiritual tools that help a person discern God’s will

Father Ed Dougherty grew up in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. He became a Maryknoll mission priest more than 40 years ago, and he has served in the U.S., in Tanzania and in Rome. He is a former Superior General of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. The 107-year-old Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, more popularly known as the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, follows Jesus in serving people in need in more than 20 countries. Please join us on First Friday, November 7th, for an All-Night Vigil offered in loving prayer and reparation for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. This sacred night is dedicated to interceding for those who have gone before us and are being purified before entering the glory of Heaven.

Schedule of the Evening:

7:00 PM Adoration
8:00 PM – Confessions
9:00 PM – Holy Mass (offered for the Holy Souls)

Followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Reflection on the Church’s teaching on Purgatory and the power of intercessory prayer. Continued Eucharistic Adoration throughout the night

Overnight Devotions Will Include:

Sacred Heart and Precious Blood devotions (First Friday)
Prayers for Priests and Seminarians
Holy Face Prayers and Precious Blood of Jesus Devotions
Prayers for the Holy Souls in Purgatory
Stations of the Cross (offered for the departed)
Scriptural Rosaries and Marian devotions
Litanies for the Dead and sung chaplets
Readings from the Saints and teachings on Purgatory
Quiet moments of adoration and reflection and Hymns of consolation and hope

Free refreshments will be available at Midnight and again at 3:30 AM

4:55 AM – Benediction
5:00 AM – Closing Holy Mass
