CARDINAL EGAN HAS KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY

Edward Cardinal Egan, Archbishop of New York, underwent successful replacement surgery today on his left knee at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.  Dr. Thomas P. Sculco, who performed the surgery, said that the Cardinal is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days.  Thereafter, the Cardinal will spend approximately one week in a rehabilitation center.  The Cardinal will then return to his residence, where he will continue his therapy and resume his regular office work.
