Election Day is always the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. For the Supreme Court, the opening day is the first Monday in October. But for Bible lovers in the New York metro area, the big day is always the third Saturday in June, the day of the annual New York Catholic Bible Summit. The date this year is June 16
For nine years, the Archdiocesan Catechetical Office and American Bible Society have been combining their resources to gather at the Terence Cardinal Cooke Center on First Avenue and 56 Street some of the brightest lights in the today's Scripture study world
This year, the theme is "Live the Gospel of Joy," reflecting Pope Francis' apostolic exhortations, The Joy of the Gospel (2013) and Rejoice and Be Glad, promulgated just last month.  The works will address the joy of being a disciple, how the Bible became a book, biblical perspectives on joy, even headlines from Jesus, and more.  At time when the world is very short of joy, our scholars in both the Spanish and English tracks will give you reasons to rejoice
You are invited to join them on June 16 along with some very special guests, including Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, Canada; and Juan José Cardinal Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, Spain. The cardinals will deliver keynote addresses for the Bible Summit in English and Spanish respectively. Mario Paredes, Presidential Liaison for Catholic Ministries at the American Bible Society, will represent that organization. The principal celebrant of the opening Mass will be Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations
You will find complete information on the Bible Summit, the schedule, our presenters, and their joy-filled topics right here. Do make plans to join us. The fee for the entire day, including morning hospitality and lunch) is just $25.00
See you on the third Saturday in June
