Details: The TreasureHouse Chorale and Chamber Orchestra and Soloists will perform their twenty-sixth annual Advent-Christmas Concert, “Round Yon Virgin”, featuring sacred repertory in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary by master composers through the centuries, and selections from the Matins of Our Lady of Guadalupe by Ignacio de Jerusalem. Program concludes with a Festival of Carols. The Chorale and chamber orchestra have been performing concerts of sacred music since 1990, and will present three magnificent concerts, in three beautiful churches, from Lower Westchester to Putnam County. ABOUT THE CHORALE The TreasureHouse Chorale is comprised of choristers from parishes and churches throughout Westchester, Dutchess, Rockland, and Fairfield Counties, including Saint John and Saint Mary, Chappaqua, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Shrub Oak, St. Bernard, White Plains, Saint Lucy’s, Bronx, Saint Paul, Greenwich, Saint Cecilia’s, Stamford, St. Denis, Hopewell Junction, and Saint Augustine’s, New City. Under the direction of Mr. Joseph Nigro, it consists of fifty professional and semi-professional SATB voices from among various parish choirs he directed over the years as a choir director and organist in the Archdiocese of New York and Diocese of Bridgeport. The Chorale performed their 19th Annual Advent-Christmas Concert in December 2008, and have performed at St. Bernard’s Church, White Plains, Maryknoll Seminary, Ossining, Our Lady of Loreto Church, Cold Spring, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Shrub Oak, St. Paul’s Church, Greenwich, Annunciation Church, Crestwood, Saint James, Carmel, and St. John & St. Mary Church, Chappaqua. Their 1995 Advent-Christmas Concert held in Stamford was attended by then-Bishop of Bridgeport Cardinal Egan. Since 1990 they have appeared annually on The Sunday Mass, produced by Passionist Communications of Pelham, NY. On their compact disc recording Rejoice, Greatly, they perform many of the masterpieces of sacred music by Handel, Bach, Mendelssohn, Palestrina and Holst, accompanied by organist Lana Kollath, Chamber Orchestra, and featuring Metropolitan Opera Dramatic Soprano Janet Hopkins. They have performed Gounod’s St. Cecilia Mass, Vivaldi’s Magnificat, Saint-Saens’ Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Mass in B Flat Major, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, and many other works from the sacred repertory. Their concerts have been televised throughout Westchester County on many cable channels. The Chorale has performed in the Vatican at St. Peter’s Basilica on three occasions, and made a fourth choir pilgrimage abroad to Austria and Germany in October, 2003. ABOUT THE DIRECTOR Joe has been an organist and choir director since 1975, having his first appointment as a parish music director at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in the Bronx at the age of fourteen. He conducted three choir tours in Rome and the Vatican in 1996, 1998, and 2001; and in Austria and Germany in 2003. He has produced six recordings of sacred music since 1990. In 1997 Cardinal Egan appointed Mr. Nigro Director of Music for the funeral services of former Bishop of Bridgeport Walter Curtis, held in the Cathedral of Saint Augustine in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He conducted a Diocesan choir of one hundred voices with chamber orchestra and cathedral organ. Mr. Nigro has performed organ recitals in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in 2000, 2002, and 2006, and in June 2003 he conducted a combined Archdiocesan Choir of one hundred twenty five voices, also in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, for the Archdiocesan Catechetical Office’s Centennial Anniversary Liturgy, His Eminence Cardinal Egan presiding. He served a term as Dean of the Westchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists 2004-2006. Mr. Nigro studied organ with Dr. Jack Hennigan of Pelham, New York, and teaches piano and organ to private students in Westchester and Fairfield counties. He is the Director of Music Ministries at the Catholic Church of Saint Joseph in Somers, New York, and coordinates the parish’ popular concert series. He is the founder and director of The TreasureHouse Chorale, a professional chorus and orchestra based in Westchester, New York, which have produced two compact disc recordings. He is a founding member of The Three Organists, an organist consortium that performs organ recitals and programs in area churches.
