Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York to Bless the New Frank Shiner Theater at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture

NEW YORK, NY –Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York will bless the new Frank Shiner Theater (formerly the Black Box Theater), at The Sheen Center for Thought and Culture on February 28 at 4:00 p.m. The blessing will be followed by a reception at The Sheen Center located at 18 Bleecker Street in Manhattan. The new theater is named for award-winning musician, actor, and entrepreneur, Frank Shiner who, with his wife Suzanne, funded recent renovations of the 80-seat black box theater.

Shiner’s relationship with The Sheen Center began in 2019 when he was invited by Board member, actress, and singer, Vanessa Williams, to perform at the Center’s inaugural Christmas benefit concert. He has since remained a loyal patron. In December, 2021 Shiner was the lead sponsor and host of the Center’s annual fundraising event, “Christmas on Bleecker,” sharing the stage with Williams and a host of other performers.

Shiner’s philanthropic work extends to various non-profit organizations, including Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The National Breast Cancer Foundation, The Newcastle Historical Society, The Chappaqua Orchestra, The Chappaqua Performing Arts Center (ChappPAC), and Horace Greeley Theater at Chappaqua High School. The Shiners are members of St. John and St. Mary’s Church in Chappaqua.

Shiner has released two albums and performed in numerous stage and television productions. His most recent album, “Lonely Town Lonely Street” was produced by 13-time Grammy-winning producer, Jay Newland. Shiner performer regularly at venues in and around New York City including 54 Below, The Cutting Room, and the Iridium Jazz Club.

Among all of his accomplishments, Shiner asserts that his most cherished role in life is as a dedicated husband and father to his wife and three children.
