Bishop Anthony F. Mestice
The Most Reverend Anthony Francis Mestice
The Most Reverend Anthony Francis Mesticewas born in the Bronx on December 6, 1923.
Bishop Mestice attended St. John the Evangelist elementary school, Manhattan, Cathedral High School, Cathedral College and St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers.
He was ordained on the June 4, 1949 at St. Patrick's Cathedral by the late Francis Cardinal Spellman. Afterward, Bishop Mestice was assigned to St. Anthony's Church, Wakefield, where he served for twenty years.
In 1969, he was appointed to his first pastorate at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie.Three years later he became the pastor of the Church of St. Dominic in the Bronx.
On April 27, 1973 Bishop Mestice was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York and officially retired in July 2002.
