Bicentennial Celebration

Through Faith We Grow

The Archdiocese of New York is celebrating its bicentennial with a year long series of events that began in April 2007. This is a wonderful time for us to reflect upon our history of faith and service, a history that mirrors the story of New York itself. Today we are a home to more than 2.5 million Catholics and are guided by nearly 1,500 priests and 3,900 religious.

Bicentennial Celebration activities will include special liturgies and events in the hopes that all members of our community will be able to participate in the commemoration of this historic anniversary. We are also coordinating with Catholic Charities of New York to institute an Archdiocese of New York Day of Service, to celebrate our history of serving the broader community. Remembering that since 1808, local parish life has been the center of the Archdiocese of New York, our parish families will also have the opportunity to plan their own Bicentennial events. As we look forward to the activities which will occur throughout 2007 and into 2008, we continue to look for opportunities to include as many of our Catholic families as possible in the various celebration activities planned and yet to be planned, please visit our Celebration Events Calendar to find an activity in your area.
